Bridge over the Canal263 viewsThe canal was low enough to wade across. However, the gator guards were ever vigilant. We decided that the bridge was the better choice.11111

Moochie Inspects the Cache Contents192 viewsThe cache--called The Pawpaw Cache in honor of the nearby Pawpaw mound--contained many high quality items, which is typical of The Boonieman's caches.00000

After the Fall239 viewsNote that I kept my shirt clean, while my feet and my hands wound up with all the mud. Fortunately, I didn't have to eat any mud.00000

Gator with a Nose Job265 viewsWhen we eventually got to the area of the cache, we found this six or seven foot alligator guarding the loot. He was a handsome reptile, but apparently I wasn't up to my usual, fine photographic technique. Basic rule #1: get the entire subject into the frame! I was juggling my camera, my hat, my glasses, my hiking stick, and my GPSr. So, I cut Mr. Gator's nose out of the picture.00000

Another Hiker's Dilemma224 viewsAt one point, when it looked as if we were in it too deep, moochie gave me a look. Knowing what it meant, I said, "Well, we can't just lay down and DIE here!" So, we hiked out. We were lucky. We didn't have to be lifted out.00000

My Feet after the Mud Episode183 viewsAside from one spill during the great bushwhack, in which I fell over backwards onto a bed of grass (didn't hurt), I thought I was going to finish the day without incident. I was wrong. Less than a mile from the Jeep, I got stuck in the mud and wound up falling forward. Then, my hands were also stuck in the black goop (seasoned, no doubt, with cow manure). 00000

A Couple of "Did-It!" Buttons for the Weary Cachers213 viewsIt turned out that we would hike about nine miles for this cache, so we felt that we deserved the pins as proof of our accomplishment.00000

Debbie Does Dallas261 viewsI don't know what the title has to do with the picture. This is Deb, who had already finished her traversal of the bridge when I asked her to go back on the bridge and pose.00000

A Look Back at the Cattle after Retracing Our Steps240 viewsThe Bushwhack turned out to be The Bushwhack of Death II, so we backtracked to the cows, which by that time were preferable to further bushwhacking. Here, they once again ask us whether we're going to feed them, or get the hell out of their space.00000
